I knew there was something odd about him. I had known it from the second he and
those two women had entered my hotel. I treated them as any other guests and gave them thier room keys. But he came back an
half hour or so later.
"Excuse me, 'Mam," he asked. "Would you be so kind as to tell me where
the salon is?"
"'Mam? Do I really look that old?" I joked, but he missed it."
"No-- You're looking quite lovely-- That is--"
"Relax, Sugar, I'm just messing with you." I smiled.
There was not denying how cute he was, unusual as his style was. He had spiked
blonde hair, just a few flyaways hanging down. He also wore a red jacket, and had quite possibly the most beautiful eyes I
had ever seen. "The salon's across the street, two buildings to the left."
"Thank you Miss...." He guestured for a name.
"You can call me Sandy, Sugar."
"Thank you, Miss. Sandy." He smiled and left.
Awhile later, the short haired woman came running to my desk.
"The man we came in with," she inquired hurriedly. "Did you see where he went?"
"He asked where the salon was about an hour ago," I informed her, and repeated
the directions. I could have sworn I heard her growl. "Trouble in paradise," I muttered to myself, after she had gone.
Minutes later, I heard the man's voice outside my door.
" You were unavailable for consultation!I did not sneak out!"
"You SNUCK out while Milly and I were asleep!" the woman accused, pushing him through
the door.
"Easy on my door, okay?" I asked calmly.
"Sorry 'Mam," the woman apologised.
"Hey!" the man said. "She doesn't like that!"
She stopped pushing. "What?"
He pointed at me. "Sandy. She's a 'Miss,' not a 'Mam.'"
"It's not that big a deal, Sugar," I said. "I was just having a bit of fun with you."
"That's so like you," the woman said to him. "Come on, just get back upstairs.
You're supposed to be resting."
She began to walk back up the stairs. He began to follow, but turned on his heel and raced
out the door. Seconds later, the woman was pushing him back through the door. This time she didn't stop for any conversation.
That was the last I saw of them until they checked out and left the next day.
